Today, on Kosovo’s Independence Day, Prime Minister Albin Kurti opened our International Conference: “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲, 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆, 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗞𝗼𝘀𝗼𝘃𝗼” with a speech emphasizing the importance of truth-seeking, documentation, and justice for crimes committed during the 1998-99 war in Kosovo.

The conference brings together academics, legal experts, policymakers, and civil society representatives to discuss the scope, consequences, and accountability of war crimes. Prime Minister Kurti highlighted the lasting impact of war crimes on survivors and the families of victims, underscoring the ongoing need for thorough documentation and legal redress.

The Institute for War Crimes in Kosovo was established to support this mission, working to ensure that historical facts are recorded, justice is pursued, and collective memory is preserved.

This conference, along with the forthcoming academic volume, represents a step forward in strengthening research, institutional cooperation, and mechanisms for accountability.

Through a collaborative approach—engaging national institutions, academia, civil society, and international partners—Kosovo continues to advance efforts toward justice, recognition, and the prevention of impunity.
