Prof. Dr. Arben Hajrullahu at the IKKL International Conference: Academia’s Role in Preserving Truth and Advancing Justice.
Today, at the International Conference on the Scale, Legacy, Documentation, and Adjudication of Crimes Committed in Kosovo, Prof. Dr. Arben Hajrullahu, Rector of the Universiteti i Prishtinës, emphasized the essential role of academia in documenting war crimes, preserving historical truth, and advancing justice.
Reflecting on the human cost of war, he highlighted the lasting impact on survivors and families of victims—those still searching for justice, those who have endured war crimes, and those whose stories must not be forgotten. Truth-seeking, he noted, is not just a moral obligation but a fundamental academic and institutional duty.
The Role of Academia in War Crimes Documentation: As Kosovo’s leading academic institution, the University of Prishtina is committed to rigorous research and evidence-based historical narratives. Its partnership with the Institute for War Crimes in Kosovo (IKKL) is a key step in strengthening war crimes documentation, academic inquiry, and historical awareness. This collaboration aims to educate future generations, inform policymaking, and contribute to lasting peace.
A Global Effort for Truth and Accountability: This conference brings together renowned scholars from Kosovo and international institutions, whose research on war crimes documentation, transitional justice, and societal impact will be compiled into an academic volume. This work will serve as a key reference for scholars, policymakers, and justice institutions in Kosovo and beyond.
Commitment to Truth, Justice, and Memory: Prof. Dr. Hajrullahu expressed his gratitude to IKKL for its dedication to this crucial mission and thanked all scholars and participants for enriching the academic discourse. He reaffirmed that the University of Prishtina remains steadfast in supporting research that strengthens historical truth, preserves collective memory, and advances justice for war victims in Kosovo and beyond.
